This review is going into the Puslinch Pioneer at the end of the month, written by Virginia Hildebrandt
Puslinch now has a new author, Chris Harris. His fictional tale is evocative of Roman times with fantasy and a magical twist. His first book is a good read and I think it will be most appreciated by younger readers who enjoy action, battles and the descriptive detail. I would have liked a few less fight scenes but they were pertinent to the story and the plot was woven into the fighting. He has done a lot of research on weaponry and was inventive in his portrayal of the various opponents and matches. The main characters, Gavin and Sadira, were quite believable with insightful exchanges and good character development. The forewords before each chapter were excellent and the glossary was helpful too. Be prepared for a sequel but then I want a map of Gavin’s travels.
I like her style. The review is short and to the point. Positive without being overly sweet.
